Tioman Island
Tioman Island is not only the largest island, but also the most famous island in the Seri Buat chain. This exotic island archipelago, that was featured in a number of Survival-type reality shows, is situated off the east coast of Malaysia.
Now, whilst perhaps best known for its many great hotels, resorts and guest houses, some travelers have noted that Tioman's natural beauty is its most attractive feature.
To wit, Tioman Island's thick jungle covers more than 10,000 hectares, its various pristine terrestrial ecosystems, mountain streams and waterfalls boasting dozens of protected animal and plant species, including mammals, birds, fish and reptiles.
Amazingly, some of Tioman's animal ands plants species are endemic to Tioman Island, which means they cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Tioman arguably also offers some of the most idyllic beaches and picture-perfect coves.
Tioman Island's impressive visual feature Gunung Kajang, Mount Gajang, is the island's highest peak. More than 1000 meters tall, this rainforest-covered volcano remnant is actually the highest peak of all the Peninsular Malaysia's islands.
But Tioman's rugged natural beauty doesn't stop there; its gin-clear waters are home to many species of coral. The island's breathtaking underwater environment is also the home to quite a variety of invertebrate and vertebrate creatures, including exotic nudibranchs, fish, hawksbill and green turtles, as well as several dolphin species.
As it happens, even migrating whale sharks make an appearance around Tioman Island occasionally.
Small wonder then Tioman is referred to as a snorkelers' and scuba divers' Mecca.
And courtesy of its famous paradise beaches, Tioman was once awarded the title "World's Top 10 Most Beautiful Island" by Time Magazine.
With all this Tioman goodness, it's clear to see that it's not just sun-bathers, mountain-climbers, jungle-trekkers or snorkeling and scuba diving practitioners that will have the time of their lives in Tioman Island. Those looking for a quiet secluded escape, as well as windsurfers and SUP-lovers will also have a brilliant time in Tioman Island.
